We’ve recently had the opportunity to sit down with one of our customers, Paul Beardsley from Noisy Bird, to find out how he’s been getting on with our ContentCal platform. It’s incredibly important to us to find out how our customers are getting on with our platform and what they are enjoying most of all. Let’s take a look at Paul’s experience with ContentCal and how and why he’s using it to manage his agency’s social media content.
How did you get started in the social media marketing industry and what kinds of things do your company do?
We started out about 18 months ago so we’re still fairly new. To begin with there was just the two of us, myself and my business partner, but there are now four of us in total. We do a lot of social media content and management, Facebook ads, etc.
What is it about social media that most inspires you?
I’m actually an accountant by trade so I’ve had quite the change in career. In a previous business I used social media quite heavily, as well as making use of it in my day to day life. I ended up getting involved with a friend’s business and we began to use social media tactics to a fairly successful degree to market our business. In the end we decided to offer our social media skills to other companies.
What advice do you have for managers of social media content?
It’s pretty cliche, but it’s all about giving before you sell to people. You’ve got to concentrate most of your social media presence on educating and giving value to your audience rather than just selling and promoting your business.
What are your biggest productivity drains or workload challenges in your agency and what have you done to overcome them?
We’d spend a lot of time just emailing back and forth on different systems so we would use Trello quite often to collaborate with our clients. However, a lot of our clients would prefer to email and so Trello became a little bit unnecessary and we ended up with a lot of different systems in different places. Essentially, since using ContentCal and having the ability to see everything in the calendar really clearly, we have become a lot more streamlined.
What caused to you begin using ContentCal and how have you used social media tools before?
We started off with Trello and used it for about a year alongside Eclincher. We did a lot of research and found that it offered a lot of the features we were looking for. However, we came to realise over time that it actually had a lot more features than we needed. As a result, we decided to move over to Sendible which again, had even more features. We liked the concept of it’s integrated email system but it wasn’t appropriate for our set-up as we are often in and out with different clients and needed to be able to do this quickly.
We were looking for a different system when we found ContentCal. Its ease of use and calendar view made things a lot easier for us so we could instantly see what content we’ve got and where the gaps are. We also love using placeholders to simply drop an idea in and come back to it later.
Which ContentCal features have you found most useful for managing social media and why?
We find the calendar view to be the most useful as we can instantly see everything at a glance. We’re also very fond of the post preview option as we were often experiencing problems where our content would be sent out and it wouldn’t look quite how we expected it to. It’s nice to get an idea of how things are going to look before they go out.
Approximately how much time do you think you have saved since you started using the ContentCal platform?
It’s hard to say off the top of my head but I’d say definitely something around 4-5 hours a week has been saved between the whole team. It’s really helped us to work better as a team as I can easily go into the platform and see exactly what everyone has done and the status of each calendar.
We would like to give a huge thank you to Paul for taking the time out of his day to talk to us about his experience with ContentCal. We’re glad to hear you are enjoying the platform so far, and wish you the best with us in the future.
